IRVINE, Calif. – The upcoming Memorial Day weekend signals the unofficial start of the top-down summer driving season. To celebrate, Mazda North American Operations (MNAO), maker of the MX-5 Miata – the world’s best-selling convertible sports car, and the only optional power-retractable hard top that takes up no trunk space – wants to make sure convertible drivers across the country enjoy their vehicles, but do it safely at the same time.

HIROSHIMA, Japan
— Mazda Motor Corporation today held a rollout ceremony for the all-new Mazda2 (known as the Demio in Japan) at its Ujina Plant No.1 (U1) near Mazda’s headquarters in Hiroshima. Approximately 550 people, including Mazda’s Executive Vice President, Robert J. Graziano, together with other Mazda executive officers, union representatives and employees, gathered to celebrate the start of new Mazda2 production. The first car to come off the line is bound for the Japanese market, with sales due to commence in summer 2007.

Last-Lap Pass In Utah Gives Altenburg Second-Straight SPEED Touring Car Win

TOOELE, Utah (May 19, 2007)
– Jeff Altenburg, of Ellicott City, Md., collected his second-straight win of the year at Miller Motorsports Park Saturday in dramatic fashion, passing teammate Randy Pobst, of Gainesville, Ga., on the final lap of the SCCA Pro Racing SPEED World Challenge Touring Car Championship Round Two race, part of the Larry H. Miller Dealerships Utah Grand Prix. Last year’s race winner, Pierre Kleinubing, of Coconut Creek, Fla., finished third.

Saini Wins Second MX-5 Cup Race at Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca

MONTEREY, Calif. (May 19, 2007) - Jason Saini, of Fort Worth, Texas, cruised to a more that five second win over Todd Buras, of Melbourne, Fla., today to capture his second win of the SCCA Pro Racing SIRIUS Satellite Radio Mazda MX-5 Cup season at Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca, as part of the U.S. Sports Car Invitational. Californian Matt Cross finished third.

After starting third, it did not take long for the current MX-5 Cup point leader Saini to grab the lead from the polesitter Cross. Driving the No. 28 Autobarn Mazda/SafeRacer.com Mazda MX-5, Saini took the lead coming out of the corkscrew on lap one and never looked back winning by 5.721-seconds at an average speed of 77.751 mph.

Altenburg Takes Second SPEED Touring Car Pole of Season in Utah

TOOELE, Utah (May 18, 2007)

Mike Nealy, President of Global Events Group, announced today that Mazda North American Operations (MNAO) has signed on as title sponsor of the Mazda Champ Car Grand Prix of Portland Presented by Joe’s Sports and Outdoor.

Tri-Point Motorsports is adding a third driver to their already potent lineup for the remainder of the ten-race 2007 SCCA SPEED World Challenge Touring Car series schedule. Roberto Santos will pilot the #74 Tri-Point Motorsports prepared Mazdaspeed Motorsport Development MAZDA6 in the remaining nine races of this year’s Touring Car schedule, and will make his debut for Tri-Point and the World Challenge series at the Miller Motorsports Park event the weekend of May 17-19.
