Mazda has revised its basic environmental policy, called the Mazda Global Environmental Charter, from the standpoint of achieving its corporate social responsibility goals. The newly updated plan defines the expanded scope of environmental initiatives for the entire Mazda group and reinforces the company's worldwide corporate social responsibility (CSR) efforts.

The new Mazda Global Environmental Charter expands Mazda's scope of activity to all of its consolidated group companies. In partnership with these valued group partners, Mazda is moving forward with more initiatives such as vehicle recycling, and it has revised its approach to the environment to reflect its current activities after a 13-year interval. The Mazda Environmental Charter was first instituted in 1992.

Mazda has already attained ISO14001 certification for all of its main production bases worldwide as part of its environmental management system. The Hiroshima-based company is now examining the introduction of a separate certification system for the environmental management of its smaller offices, group companies, and suppliers that are not yet certified.

Mazda requested that its suppliers attain the ISO14001 designation, and by the end of fiscal 2004, 95 percent had attained the ISO certification.

During June's Environment Month events, Mazda will hold the "Environment Exhibition" at the Mazda Museum, which was newly renovated in February 2005. This exhibition features special 'green technology' displays about vehicle recycling process, Mazda's eco-friendly Three Layer Wet Paint System, and actual parts and information boards that are part of Mazda's new bumper recycling technology. The Environment Exhibition will be held from June 1st to June 30th, 2005.

Also starting on June 1st, visitors to the Mazda Museum can watch the assembly of actual production vehicles on Mazda's Ujina No.1 plant assembly line.

The Mazda Museum, located near Mazda's global headquarters in Hiroshima, Japan, is open from 9:30 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. and from 1:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. on weekdays (closed Saturday, Sundays and national holidays). 1. Creation of environmentally sound technologies and products
- We are committed to the challenge of creating clean technologies, including those facilitating cleaner exhaust emissions, a reduction in CO2, the development of clean-energy vehicles and alternative energy vehicles, and the protection of the ozone layer.
- We will encourage the creation of products that are environmentally sound throughout their lifespan, from the planning and development stages through to manufacturing, use, and recycling / disposal.

2. Corporate activities for conserving resources and energy
- In order to conserve limited resources, we will actively promote resource conservation and recycling activities.
- We will strive to achieve diversified and efficient use of energy.

3. Corporate activities in pursuit of a clean environment
- We will not merely comply with environmental laws and regulations, but will also impose voluntary controls for higher standards, and implement thorough self-regulated control.
