BRASELTON, Ga. (April 28, 2007) – Ara Malkhassian, of Sonoma, Calif., played the waiting game perfectly and captured his first career-win in the final corner at Road Atlanta for Round Two of the SCCA Pro Racing SIRIUS Satellite Radio Mazda MX-5 Cup, part of the 30th Anniversary Walter Mitty Challenge. Jason Saini, of Fort Worth, Texas, and Eric Foss, of Braselton, Ga. completed the podium.

Starting fourth on the grid for Saturday’s 26-lap, 66.04-mile race, Malkhassian immediately improved to third on the opening lap and quickly chased down the Team MER cars of Saini and Foss. Malkhassian held down the third-place position in his No. 11 Alara Racing Mazda MX-5 for 18 laps, before making his move around Foss for second. Malkhassian then set to work on then-leader Saini, but an attempt for the lead in Turn One cost Malkhassian enough speed to send him back to third.

Mazda sponsors America’s Cup challenger
Submitted by Berny on Friday, April 20, 2007 - 19:23

19 April 2007, Mazda is bringing its Zoom-Zoom spirit to the high-tech world of yacht racing this week, by sponsoring the ‘home’ team at this year’s America’s Cup staged in the waters off Valencia. Spain’s Desafio Español squad is one of 11 teams fighting for the opportunity to challenge the defending champions, Switzerland’s Alinghi, for the cup in late June.

At the pinnacle of sailing competition, the America’s Cup is the Formula 1 of yacht racing, with each multi-million dollar carbon-hulled challenger capable of speeds up to 20 knots (23 mph) – without an engine. Built in Valencia last year, the Spanish team’s mono-hull ESP-97 boat has already shown its pace in preliminary events and currently holds equal-second place in the challenger’s rankings.

-- April Sees Mazda Racers On The Road From Coast-to-Coast --

April 21, 2007 (IRVINE, California).
The Grand Prix of Houston will roar back to JAGFlo Speedway at Reliant Park this weekend, but the Grand Prix isn’t a single race. Rather, it’s a three-day weekend showcasing the best of American sports car and open wheel racing. Each race is unique, but they all share a common link: Mazda, including three races that are 100% Mazda.

The Cooper Tires Presents The Champ Car Atlantic Championship Powered by Mazda continues to be the premier open-wheel development series in North America. Now in its 34th season, the championship is noted for its long history of graduating its stars into Champ Car competition and has helped produce past Champ Car champions Paul Tracy, Jimmy Vasser, Bobby Rahal, Danny Sullivan, Michael Andretti and Jacques Villeneuve. Recent Champ Car competitors include Alex Tagliani, Andrew Ranger, Katherine Legge, and A.J. Allmendinger. 2006 Series champion Simon Pagenaud and runner-up Graham Rahal also join the Champ Car ranks this season. Competing in Swift 016.a chassis powered by a 2.3-liter Mazda-Cosworth MZR engine while riding on Cooper Tires, competitors will fight for the 12-race championship and the unique $2 million Champ Car series champion's bonus. Houston will be round three for the series as the drivers chase points leader Raphael Matos who has won the first two races.
