Mazda Commences Sales of All-New Roadster in Japan

Most evolved third-generation model carries on the roadster's tradition of excellence

HIROSHIMA, Japan
--The embodiment of Mazda Motor Corporation's "Zoom-Zoom" brand message, the lightweight, two-seat, open-top Roadster sports car, went on sale today at Mazda and Mazda Anfini dealers throughout Japan. The Roadster--known as the MX-5 in overseas markets--was last significantly upgraded seven years ago. To commemorate the launch of this much-anticipated new model, Mazda will also begin sales of 500 premium "Third Generation Limited" model roadsters today.

Mazda Announces 2006 MX-5 Miata Prices

KONA, Hawaii — The redesigned 2006 MX-5 Miata roadster will start at $20,995, including a $560 destination charge for the Club Spec trim with a five-speed manual transmission, when it hits the market in August, according to Mazda North American Operations.

That's a $1,663 price decrease from the base price of the 2005 model, which starts at $22,658.

Mazda Motor Corporation revealed the all-new MX-5 to the world at a press conference held today at the 75th Geneva International Motor Show (Salon International de l'Auto in Geneva). Updated, improved, and at long last unleashed, the all-new, third-generation Mazda MX-5 is the latest and most-advanced evolution of the world's best-selling lightweight sports car. Takao Kijima, program manager for the new vehicle, said, "Our effort with the all-new MX-5 was to retain the key roadster attributes that made this car famous--the lightweight feeling, the balanced handling, the overall nimbleness of the product--but make the vehicle more useful for a wider range of customers, offering better value, more comfort, and overall higher levels of interior quality."

New Miata Spy Shots

The German Website AutoBild.de has done it again, releasing production photos of the Miata before their embargo (They did this with the RX-8 as well a few years back) This is the car that will be debuing at Geneva next month. Notice, that this new MX-5 does not have the "MAZDA" Family face on it, nor does it have a MIATA badge on it... It is unlear if the car will even be called a Miata in the US. We'll see next month...

Mazda to launch redesigned MX-5 and updated 6 at Geneva

Mazda Motor Corporation will launch its third generation MX-5 (Miata; Eunos Roadster) convertible at the Geneva motor show next month.

The automaker, about one third owned by Ford, also plans to show “a significantly upgraded” 6 line. It’s been on sale world-wide for about two years and, on Japan’s usual four-year model cycle, that means it’s mid-life update time.

Stephen Odell, head of marketing at Mazda Motors Europe, said: “With the upgrade, we have improved the product in vital areas such as NVH, performance and overall visual appeal.”

I have a 1992 base model, Classic Red, 5spd, A/C. It has 137,000 miles on it. I bought it last December as a Christmas present to myself! No mods as of yet, it needs some TLC first. Tell me about your Miata!

SCCA Pro Racing Announces Remaining Miata Cup Pacific Tour Schedule

TOPEKA, Kan. - SCCA Pro Racing announced the remainder of the Mazdaspeed Miata Cup Presented by Hankook Tires® Pacific Tour 2004 schedule today. The full season Pacific Tour schedule will include event weekends at Phoenix International Raceway, Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca and Portland International Raceway.

The Miata Cup Pacific Tour kicks off the 2004 season with two races at Phoenix International Raceway April 3-4. The Pacific Tour will headline the "Fifth Annual Spring Racing Invitational to Benefit Phoenix Children's Hospital."
