Refined Mazda3/Axela Goes on Sale in Japan

HIROSHIMA, Japan—Mazda Motor Corporation has released updated versions of the Mazda Axela sports compact in Japan. Known as the Mazda3 in overseas markets, the Mazda Axela has earned high praise both in Japan and abroad. All models in the range – including the four-door Axela, five-door Axela Sport and Mazdaspeed Axela – feature fresh improvements and are available from today at all Mazda, Mazda Anfini and Mazda Autozam dealerships nationwide. Two new special edition versions of the Axela Sport, the 23HS and 20HS, which come outfitted with equipment to enhance their sporty pedigree, also go on sale from today.

Mazda and Sirius Bring Double Zoom to Targa Newfoundland Rally

: Mazda Canada and SIRIUS Canada have teamed up to enter two fierce contenders in the 2007 Targa Newfoundland Rally: a rotary engine-powered Mazda RX-8 and a turbo-charged MAZDASPEED3.

From September 8th to 15th, the cars will compete in the 6th annual Targa Newfoundland rally. The event will cover more than 2,000 kilometres of challenging, twisty roads throughout central and eastern Newfoundland, including 400 kilometres of closed-road, flat-out Targa stages.

MazdaSpeed3/MPS Wins Class at Targa Tasmania

April 25, 2007 - After five days and 2000 grueling kilometres Rick Bates and the Mazda3 MPS finished 10th outright and took a comfortable class win in the 2007 Targa Tasmania rally.

The Mazda3 MPS, which was co-driven by Anthony McLoughlin, was the top placed standard production or showroom car and it was only outperformed by race specification or rally cars.

"The Mazda3 MPS has been a great car to drive over the last five days," said Bates. "It's powerful so its fast, has good brakes and is very well balanced so it builds your confidence and you need confidence to go fast in any rally."

Mazda Australia enters two cars for Targa Tasmania

For the first time in six years Mazda Australia will enter a two-car team in next month’s Targa Tasmania, with the 2007 event marking the endurance rally debut of the country’s quickest hot-hatch, the Mazda3 MPS.

Acclaimed rally driver, Rick Bates, will spearhead the Mazda Targa Team in the front-wheel-drive Mazda3 MPS and, in a first for Mazda Motorsport, rising female rally star, Melinda Both, will pilot the four-wheel-drive luxury Mazda6 MPS that won its class at last year’s rally.

Mazda Reaches One Millionth Axela (Mazda3) Produced in Japan

HIROSHIMA, Japan--Mazda Motor Corporation has announced that total production of the Mazda Axela (known as Mazda3 in overseas markets) in Japan reached the one million unit milestone at the end of August 2006. This achievement comes three years and two months after production of the Axela started at Mazda's Hofu Plant No.1 (H1) at the end of June 2003 and establishes a new record for the fastest time to produce one million units of a Mazda vehicle.

Mazda North American Operations (MNAO) and Burmeister Rallysport today announced the MAZDASPEED team's return to the 2005 Rally America Championship with the all-new MAZDA3 rally car, to be unveiled prior to the Oregon Trail Rally in April.
